I am teaming up with Donor Network West to raise awareness about the need for organ, eye and tissue donation at the 10th annual Donate Life Run/Walk! This event will celebrate those touched by donation and honor the donors who have given the gift of life.
Funds raised from the Run/Walk help provide education on organ, eye, and tissue donation through community outreach, research, clinical events and our annual Donor Family Ceremonies. Each person touched by Donor Network West’s public education campaigns, who then registers as a donor, has the potential of saving 8 lives through organ donation and improving another 75 lives through tissue donation.
It’s easy to make a difference – just click the button to the right to make a donation. Any amount helps the over 11,000 people waiting for a life-saving transplant in Northern California and Northern Nevada.
I hope you will join me in building a future where all those waiting for a transplant receive their second chance at life.
My personal story is known to some of you but for those who don't know...keep reading.....I RUN FOR MY SON!
Trevor was born September 25th 1992. Soon after his birth, something was not right. He was lethargic, not eating and his jaundice was not going away. After many blood sticks...it was a reality that something was wrong with his liver. Many other tests consumed his tiny body until exploratory surgery was scheduled
At 6 weeks he was taken into surgery and after a very long wait, he was brought to recovery where the doctors informed us what they had already suspected. He had Biliary Atresia. BA is a liver disease that occurs sometime in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. The bile ducts become scared closed blocking all bile out of the liver. The surgeons perfomed a"Kasai" procedure in which a portion of his small intestine was attached to his liver to create a makeshift duct to by some time until he would eventually need a liver transplant.
On July 22nd 1993 our very sick little angel was rolled into a 12 hour surgery where he would receive a portion of my liver. A "living related donor."
The surgery was a success! But the life he grew up in was filled with doctors...medications...several rejection episodes and countless trips to the hospital for differant ailments.
Trevor was a strong kid and eventually beat the odds and became one of the first transplant kids to make it to a D1 college, on scholorship, to play football as a kicker. He excelled and broke many personal records. His story is God ordained and Trevor has learned that life is precious and full of hope. He has been a role model for other kids to never give up and go after your dreams!
I run this race for HIM, my son and for our Jesus Christ who has watched over him and allowed his life to be fulfilled. We will forever be grateful...his family...to be privileged enough to watch him grow into a beautiful 27 year old man!!!
My goal is to raise $270.00. 27 for his football number and 27 for the amount of years God has blessed his life.
Thank you and God bless you for partnering with me
